This policy explains what information PlantThis collects, why it is used, where it is processed, and the choices available to you. By using PlantThis, you acknowledge the practices described here.

Information we collect

Anonymous and registered account information

On the first connected launch, PlantThis automatically creates a random anonymous cloud account identifier without requiring your name, email address, or phone number. We use it to isolate your cloud data, usage limits, and purchase entitlement from other users. Registration is optional. If you add a sign-in method, we also process the account identifier and provider needed for that method. Authentication is provided by our backend account service. Google or Apple may also process information when you choose their sign-in services under their own policies.

Without a linked sign-in method, losing the anonymous session may make its plant history unrecoverable. Restoring an App Store or Google Play purchase restores eligible premium access, not lost plant history.

Plant photos and identification records

When you choose a photo or take one for identification, PlantThis uploads a resized copy to our service. We store the image and thumbnail in a cloud storage service and send the image to our backend vision service for plant identification. We store the resulting plant name, care information, health assessment, identification history, and saved collection so they can be shown in your account. Images may be reachable through hard-to-guess storage URLs needed by the identification service; do not upload photos containing people, addresses, documents, or other sensitive information.

Usage and purchase information

We keep identification counts and related service records to enforce usage limits and operate the app. If you make a purchase, PlantThis processes the product ID, purchase token, package name, and subscription entitlement needed to verify access. Google Play processes the payment; PlantThis does not receive your full payment-card number.

Support and technical information

If you contact us, we receive the information in your message. Our hosting and service providers may process standard network and diagnostic information, such as IP address, request time, device or browser details, and error logs, to deliver, secure, and troubleshoot the service.

Device permissions

• Camera: used only when you choose to take a plant photo.
• Photos or media: used only to let you choose images or save app-related images where supported.
• Internet: used for sign-in, uploads, identification, collection sync, and purchase verification.

You can deny or revoke optional permissions in device settings, although related features may stop working.

How we use information

• Authenticate users and protect accounts.

Service providers and disclosure

We use service providers to operate PlantThis, including backend account and database services, a cloud storage service for image storage, a backend vision service for image analysis, and Google Play or the Apple App Store for purchases. They process information only as needed to provide their services and under their own terms and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer. We do not sell personal information.

Retention, deletion, and your choices

We keep account and app data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. You can remove individual plants in the app. You may request deletion of selected app data while retaining your account on the data-deletion page. You can permanently delete the current anonymous or registered account and its associated cloud data inside PlantThis from Help & Support, without opening or signing in to a website. The app asks for confirmation and may require recent authentication. The account-deletion page remains an alternative for supported email accounts. Deletion may continue asynchronously while PlantThis displays its progress; data-only requests are normally completed within 30 days.

We may retain minimum records where required for legal, accounting, security, or fraud-prevention purposes. Deletion-request correspondence may be retained for up to 90 days after completion. Apple and Google keep purchase records according to their own policies. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription.

Security and international processing

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no transmission or storage system is completely secure. Our providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live, subject to applicable legal safeguards.

Children

PlantThis is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to PlantThis or legal requirements. We will publish the revised policy here and update the date above.
